1967 Decree of RSFSR Ministry of Higher and Secondary Vocational Education states the establishment of Sverdlovsk Institute of National Economy as an affiliate of Ural State University (Faculty of Economics) and Plekhanov Institute of National Economy (Moscow)

September 10, 1967 Sverdlovsk Institute of National Economy is opened. There are two faculties (full-time and part-time (evening attendance); 6 departments, 2399 students; 232 lecturers, including 3 professors, 53 assistant professors and 9 candidates of science

1981 Construction of the new building is completed

1994 Institute receives a higher academic status and a new name: Ural State University of Economics (USUE)

2006 First stone of the new 10-storeyed building is laid down

2007 USUE is rated “H+” by German Ministry of Education signifying recognition of USUE diplomas in Europe

2007 USUE celebrates its 40th anniversary

The USUE is the higher-learning institution training the Ural economic elite as well as that of Russia and the CIS countries. The University graduates are successful people presenting business and administrative circles closely connected with our University. The title “The USUE Honored Professor” is given to USUE-SINE graduates: Victor Koksharov, Chairman of Sverdlovskaya oblast Government, Maria Serova, Sverdlovskaya oblast Minister of Finance, Vera Solovjova, Sverdlovskaya oblast Minister of Trade and Service, Viktor Konteev, Yekaterinburg vice-Major and USUE-SINE graduates association President, Nikolai Podkopai, Regional Energy Commission Head, Sergey Sorvin, RFCB Chief Board Head in Sverdlovskaya oblast, the Ural Mining-Metallurgical Company Financial director Sergey Degtyarev, Valery Zavodov, President of public partnership (OAO) “Uraltransbank” Board and to the others. At present the USUE is a large education and research centre in Russia, multiprofile specialized, economic higher learning institution, which trains about 16000 students and for the last 40 years it graduated over 65000 specialists for national economy various branches. Currently the University employs over 500 members of staff, among them are 80 doctors of science, around 240 candidates of science (primarily in economy and finance); 2 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Science; 7 Honoured men of science; the Honoured Economist of the Russian Federation; a member of the New-York Academy of Science; the Honoured man of Sports and Physical Training; 12 members of different public academies. USUE is one of a few Russian universities where nearly all heads of departments are doctors of science.

College of the USUE offers training within the framework of “School – College – University” Model. The College offers retraining courses in the field of Economics for ‘non-economic’ college students. Graduates are awarded a nationally accepted diploma of high vocational education and can continue their education in the USUE as full-time or part-time students or in the Institute of Continuous Education or in the Distant learning Center.

USUE has branches in Bereznyaki (Permsky Kray); Kamensk-Uralsky and Nizhy Tagil (Sverdlovskaya Oblast); and Chalyabinsk. The University representative offices are located in Pervouralsk and Sukhoi Log (Sverdlovskaya Oblast) and Kurgan (Kurganskaya Oblast).

The university was among the founders of VUZ-Bank, a unique amalgamation of a commercial bank and a training center.

 

Entrance and pre-entrance training Board aims at the development the University cooperation with education departments at a district and city level, at the profile classes setting, at raising training quality and determining vocational aptitude of the University entrants.

 

Researches at the University are presented by the scholars investigations ordered by the RF Education Ministry, within a number of republic, regional, international programs, Russian foundation of fundamental researches, Russian humanitarian Research foundation in arts, sciences as well as for young researches together with foreign partners. Annually the University hosts ALL-Russia research conferences (with the international participation), Olympiads in different subjects. The University staff-members take an active part in the conferences, exhibitions. High qualification, research activity of the university lectures make it possible to provide the academic process with the text-books and references, manuals compiled by them.

 

Our University has established long-term relations with the US Consulate General, the UK Consulate General, DAAD, universities in the USA, Great Britain, France, and Germany. USUE has welcomed guest speakers and specialists from the USA, France, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Poland, and Mongolia. Over 230 teaching staff and 150 students have participated in academic and student mobility.

The economic Development Institute of the World Bank assigned the University as the leading institution of the Urals Siberia and the Far East for joint Trainers’ Training programme in Banking and Financial Management.

In 2006 USUE became the member of the European Retail Academy. The University has developed on-going contacts with Rostok University and Viadrina University (Frankfurt-am-Oder). An agreement on cooperation with one of the largest Chinese universities – the Harbin Polytechnics – has been signed.

Our University is the only in the Urals Region registered with the German League of Universities. USUE rating “H+” means that USUE diplomas are recognized in German universities.

 

The University disposes post-graduate courses (in 17 specialties of socio-economic, scientific and technical profiles) and doctorate courses (in 6 economic specialties). 3 specialized Councils for doctorate and candidates dissertations defence are functioning at the University (specialty 08.00.05 “Economics and National Economy Governance” and 08.00.15 “Finance, money circulation and credit”).

 

The number of book volumes exceeds 500 000. The resources include books in foreign languages (English, German, French); government documents, maps, art- and photo collections. Currently received by subscription are some 4 000 periodical and serial subscriptions. Interlibrary loan arrangements are maintained with many libraries. There are 7 divisions in the library, among them: Information and Bibliography, Reading Halls. Twenty two computers in the Computer Hall provide access to the Internet, the local network and searching engine Library 4.02. The library also makes available CD-ROM application and 14 data-bases.

 

The University publishing-house, possessing the state license, together with the polygraphic sector-provide versatile manuals, text-books and methodical stuff-materials publishing. An average publication output annually amounts to more than 250 types of printed matters covering more than 600 signatures.

Non-city residents are eligible for accommodation in the students’ hostel.

 

The University offers to students opportunities to develop him/herself, to adapt to modern business life and to develop communication skills. With this in view, USUE has the Faculty of Alternative Professional Training which offers a range of 17 courses. Business Design, Journalism, Coaching Center, Student Television Channel “Activity”, and student newspaper “Economist” are among others.

Annually the University runs the Beauty Contest “Miss USUE”. The Leisure Center coordinates the activity of several groups: KVN (Club of the Merry and Resourceful), dancing, singing, and disco-club.

 

There are two cafeterias and a snack bar, offering snacks and drinks, lunches and hot meats.

The University Sports Complex offers facilities for playing basketball, tennis, football, chess etc.
