On 2 July, in Astana there were announced winners of the First Eurasian Youth Forum among the participants of the youth subdivision of the 3rd Astana Economic Forum.
The winner of the youth subdivision of the 3rd Astana Economic Forum, within the “Dialogue of civilizations” panel, Association of foreign students and post-graduates (Kazan).
Participants: Karina Karimova, Julia Khodzhaeva, Chun Ahn, Pham Hoang Ahn, Mayo Muhammad Arab (Vietnam, Chad, Kazakhstan)
Chun Ahn:
I do appreciate my participation in the First Eurasian Youth Forum. It is a great chance for students and young scientists to discuss ways of resolving acute global issues. The Forum actually unites not only Europe and Asia, but all five continents.
I am happy to have taken part. I learnt a lot about other countries, their culture, economy, politics and life-styles.
Association of foreign students and post-graduates (Kazan) came up with a dissertation entitled “The role played by Association of foreign students and post-graduates (Kazan) in forming harmonious relations in multi-cultural youth environment of Russia”. The defenders managed to convince the audience that the association is highly important for both Russian and foreign students, giving them opportunities to realize their potential.
Imagination, creativity, ambitions and, more importantly, ability to dream make young people unique. We can do our best to make the world better! This is what the forum has demonstrated.
The moderator in charge of the panel “Models of the countries’ post-crisis development” (the First Eurasian Youth Forum in Yekaterinburg and Astana), curator of the team from the Russian-Armenian (Slavic) University (Armenia)
Mariam Voskanyan:
The core idea of the forum might be the fact that we have been living in a big global world, but not in separate countries. If it is true, then borders become obsolete, with IT and the Internet developing so fast. Consequently, finding common ways of development is absolutely vital for the world with globalized economy!
The forum gave us both a chance to talk about economic and environmental issues and a lot of positive emotions for a year, at least.
The person in charge of the panel “Business Eurasia – the future standards” (the youth subdivision of the First Eurasian Youth Forum (Russia))
Anna Polyakova, director of the Centre for business communications:
In course of our project work there was built a young international team. At the 3rd Astana Economic Forum, we took part in the intellectual duel “Corporate social responsibility: burden or benefit?” and presented various views on corporate social responsibility which exist nowadays. In reality, business and corporate social responsibility are not always able to co-exist, far from it. The issue of goals, benefits, and prospects of corporate social responsibility does not lack controversy.
The winner of the youth subdivision of the 3rd Astana Economic Forum (the “Eurasia Green” panel), student of the Perm branch of the Higher School of Economics (state university)
Julia Chuvyzgalova:
I participated in the business game “Designing a model of comfortable living space” within framework of the “Eurasia Green” panel. My project which eventually became the winner focused on household waste disposal in a comfortable eco-area.
I believe the “Eurasia Green” panel of the forum is a very promising one due to a growing concern for environmental issues with every coming year.
The winner of the youth subdivision of the 3rd Astana Economic Forum (the “Eurasia Arena Multimedia 2010.ru” panel)
Surajit Ghosh (India)
Dmitry Gubkin (coordinator of the “Eurasia Arena Multimedia 2010.ru” panel):
The winner in the category 2D-graphics is Surajit Ghosh from India. His work is entitled “Father of the Nation”. It illustrates the highly topical issue of environmental pollution contrasted by the bright image of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian fighter for independence. The work draws our attention to irresponsible attitude people have towards environmental pollution consequences and waste disposal.
The winners of the youth subdivision of the 3rd Astana Economic Forum (the “Mono-towns of Eurasia” panel)
Ayan Zhumashev, Nagima Uksumbayeva (The Kazakh University of Economics, Finance and International Trade, the Republic of Kazakhstan)
Ayan Zhumashev:
The aim of our project entitled “Constructing an atomic power station in Aktau” was to make young people of Eurasia aware that atomic power is most efficient. Using it will lead our continent to the new stage of development; building an atomic power station will result in generating such power.
Personally, I was very happy to meet young intellectuals of Eurasia who got together to participate in the forum. The main thing is that we feel the same and have similar views on issues. From now on we are moving in the same direction!

The finding generation
A number of 2010 youth projects have been included in complex investment programs of developing mono-towns. All these projects participated in the youth project competition “City of my dream” as part of the First Eurasian Youth Forum.
30 projects of modernizing economy and social sphere in the towns of Sverdlovskaya, Chelyabinskaya, Kurganskaya oblasts, the Republics of Bashkortostan and Kazakhstan came through to the final.
The best project of mono-town social and economic development was produced by the team from Polevskoy urban district. The well-deserved second place in the same category was given to the future geologists, mining surveyors and geophysicists – students of the Geologic Exploration College in Nizhnyaya Tura. The young people decided to build the town of their dream themselves – a very cultured place. The third place winners were the citizens of Turinskaya Sloboda rural settlement: their project of a new non-profit cultural service attracted potential investors’ attention.
- I think it is only the beginning of big serious work of getting young people involved in resolving problems of small and middle-size towns. I wish people criticizing the young generation had been there to watch the competition. Then there would be fewer sceptics referring to the young as “the lost generation”, said Sergey Zvorygin.
The winner in the category “The best business project” was Olga Kondakova, a USUE student. Her project was entitled “Organizing a museum at the joint-stock company “Pyatkov and Co”, aimed at building the brand of Kamensk-Uralsky town positioned as the bell capital of Russia.
- Our students guided by the Regional and Municipal EconomyDepartment conducted fundamental year-long research resulting in projects of diversification the economy of Kamensk-Uralsky. 20 out of 40 students’ proposals were approved by experts and recommended to the local business, said Evelina Peshina, Vice-Rector for Science, USUE.
The expert board of the competition was made up of representatives of the RF Regional Development Ministry, Office of the Presidential Envoy in the Ural federal district, Inter-regional association “Bolshoy Ural”, the Sverdlovsk committee of the Russian Youth Union, and municipal authorities.
If you are interested in other ingenious business ideas and unparalleled inventions suggested by the young participants, please see their presentations.

The Forum winners will receive malachite decorative compositions
Decorative compositions of rare beauty from malachite and vermeil will be given to the First Eurasian Youth Forum winners.
The compositions are small replicas of the “Europe-Asia” stela. They are made from malachite which is symbolic for the Urals, vermeil and rock crystal. According to the Forum organizers, the choice of this particular monument was not accidental as the actual “Europe-Asia” stela symbolizes unity, succession and mutual enrichment of European and Asian cultures. “The name “Eurasian” was not suggested by geography, but by spirit. Nowadays, there cannot be any differences between Eurasian countries as to the level of education, intellectual or cultural development of their population”, Mikhail Fedorov, Rector of the USUE pointed out.
30 desktop hand-made compositions will be given to the Forum winners at the awarding ceremony today, 29 June, 12 o’clock, at the Ural State University of Economics. Besides, the best of the best participants are going by Eurasian Youth Express to Astana (Kazakhstan) to take part in the youth panel of the 3rd Astana Economic Forum.

Tour le Futur
What can we expect from the sphere of tourism in the next 2 or 3 years? What can we already expect from it? You have a chance to find out. Our website familiarizes you with innovative projects by the students of Eurasia who participated in the “Eurasia Travel” media-presentation competition as part of the First Eurasian Youth Forum. The forum was held at the Ural State University of Economics in late June.
The world around us is changing fast, and so are ways to travel. One day the whole hospitality industry will be transformed beyond recognition. The fierce competition will be won by hotels able to offer their guests something extraordinary. Kseniya Islamova (Ural State Forestry Engineering University, Yekaterinburg) described the following characteristics of the hotel of the future: a chance to change the colour of lightning; beds with rocking mechanism for the lulling effect; dual application of windows (windows acting as monitors), no corners. When guests move around their hotel rooms, floor sensors read information on movement directions and model the room lighting accordingly.
The hotel of the future by Alyona Samoylova (Institute of Service and Management, Tyumen) is characterized by the sea-bed foundation. Guests can not only enjoy watching the underwater world through portholes, but also have a chance to learn diving, driving bathyscaphes, etc.
The Sverdlovsk oblast abounds in natural resources, parks and sanctuaries, enjoying unique magnificent scenery. With every coming year there is a growing demand for ecological and adventure tours. Yelena Sosnovskikh (University for the Humanities, Yekaterinburg) suggested including equestrian tourism in the top-priority list of tourism development in the Sverdlovsk oblast and making it a year-round leisure activity. The participant designed the project of a new equine tour named “The Saga of Mountain Spirits”. Apart from the horse-riding part it includes sightseeing and recreational components. In the course of the tour you will discover some breathtaking mountains: Shunut, Azov, Dyrovaty Kamen, etc.
Yekaterina Tsepeleva (University for the Humanities, Yekaterinburg) came up with the idea that a new type of consumer-tourist is emerging. She concluded that shopping tourism coupled with business travel might make quite a nice combination. There are 12 major shopping centres in Yekaterinburg serving 10 million people from Urals-wide. In the student’s opinion, such kind of travel is highly beneficial in terms of economics, aesthetics, and creativity.
We have so far been aware of New York City, Moscow City, etc. The Ural region is going to have its own City shortly. Matvey Chetvertnykh (University for the Humanities, Yekaterinburg) spoke about a business area named “Yekaterinburg-City” being built in the centre of Yekaterinburg. According to the project the area will cover over 400 thousand cubic metres housing premises for business and commercial purposes, offices, hotels, entertainment centres, cafes and restaurants. The UMMC holding is the major partner of the project, as well as the major sponsor of the First Eurasian Youth Forum.
